The first home delivery drone service has been launched in Australia, after years of test flights. Alphabet’s subsidiary Wing announced last week that it has officially launched a commercial drone delivery service “to a limited set of eligible homes in the suburbs of Crace, Palmerston and Franklin,” which are just north of Canberra, in Australia. But in the coming months the company plans to expand it to homes in Harrison and Gungahlin. Wing’s drones are able to drop a variety of small products, including coffee, food, and pharmacy items, shuttling them from local stores to customers’ backyards within minutes. Australia's aviation authority gave Wing permission to launch a commercial service after examining its safety record and operational plans. It judged that the company posed no risk to residents or other aircraft. However, the approval has several conditions attached. Drones will not be allowed to fly over main roads, they will only be allowed to fly between 7am and 8pm on Monday to Friday (or between 8am and 8pm on Sundays), and they will be restricted from flying too close to people. Customers in eligible homes will also be given a safety briefing about interacting with the drones.

Business Insider reports that the Australian regulator, CASA, said the launch was “very likely” to be a world first. It means that Google’s drone delivery company has beaten Amazon to offer a commercial service to the general public. Despite a number of high profile trial deliveries in the UK and USA, Amazon’s service is yet to launch commercially. Last year, an Amazon spokesperson told the Associated Press that the company is still “committed to making our goal of delivering packages by drones in 30 minutes or less a reality.”

据《商业内幕》报道，澳大利亚监管机构CASA称，此次推出的无人机外卖服务“极有可能”成为世界首飞。这也就意味着谷歌的无人机公司比亚马逊更早的开始向公众提供商业服务。尽管亚马逊在英国和美国进行了多次引人注目的试销，但它的服务还没有商业化。去年，亚马逊的一位发言人告诉美联社，他们仍“致力于实现我们在30分钟或更短时间内通过无人机交付包裹的目标”。

But there are still many challenges for home delivery drone service. People are currently willing to choose home delivery drone service because they are interested in it. But after the time has passed (assuming that UAVs and operators are expensive), can this business model really bring benefits? We know that the traditional delivery time of takeout service is about 30 minutes, but couriers can carry more parcels than UAVs. If it's a family dinner, it may require a lot of UAVs to delivery. The other big question here is whether these drones are worth the annoyance, because from the sound of things, they’re incredibly annoying. Wing also has said that it’s working on quieter drones, but it remains to be seen how much of an improvement is possible. We really looking forward what home delivery drone service will happen in the future.

但是目前无人机外卖服务还面临着很多挑战。人们目前愿意选择无人机外卖是因为对它很感兴趣。但是随着时间推移（假设无人机以及操作人员成本高昂的话）这个商业模式是否真的能带来收益？我们知道现在的外卖服务配送时间在30分钟左右，但是快递员相比无人机可以携带更多的货物。如果是家庭聚餐可能会需要很多架无人机来进行运输。这里的另一个问题是人们是否愿意去忍受这些无人机的噪音，因为它们的噪音实在是非常大。Wing也的确表示，他们在研究更安静的无人机，但是还有待观察改进的可能性有多大。我们非常期待未来无人机将如何改变我们的生活。
